Video games studio 2weeks has raised $1.25 million in pre-seed funding led by A16Z.

2weeks has also joined Speedrun, A61Z's accelerator programme. The new studio will use the funds to create new projects including web-based titles.

The investment comes backed by Anorak Venture, Blue Heron Ventures, Brendan Iribe (former co-founder Oculus), Nate Mitchell (former Oculus co-founder, co-founder Mountaintop Studios), Nirav Patel (Oculus founding team, founder/CEO Framework Laptops), CohhCarnage, Art Min, and Jamie Stormbreaker.

The studio is run by seasoned games industry veterans Brandon Dillon and Richard Foge with a track record of leading prototyping and development at companies like ArenaNet, Double Fine, Oculus, Santa Monica Studios, and Undead Labs.

Creating experimental prototypes

The studio has announced a goal to quickly create and release small experimental game prototypes directly on the open web to ensure a constant flow of new games for players.

“Why the web? Because we want to get games in your hands fast. No app installations, specific software, or high-end devices are required—just pure gaming joy that’s served as soon as it is ready," their official website says.

2weeks already has a game in the works titled Homestretch Bet where players can “bet on your favourite horse based on their stats and the luck of the draw as the race unfolds."

Anorak Ventures, Blue Heron Ventures, and several notable individuals, including Brendan Iribe, Ben 'CohhCarnage' Cassel, Art Min, Nate Mitchell, Nirav Patel, and Jamie Stormbreaker, also participated in the funding round.
