GetJar launches Gettie mobile developer awards

Free mobile app store GetJar has launched its first mobile developer awards, with $25,000 on offer to the app it deems best showcases innovation in design.

Branded the Getties, GetJar claims a panel of industry heavyweights will nominate 18 titles.

That's three apps each across six categories covering the major mobile OSs Android, BlackBerry, iPhone, Java, Symbian and Windows Phone.

Category winners will each pick up $15,000 in pay-per-download credits from GetJar, as well as 80 hours of free testing from DeviceAnywhere.

The overall Gettie winner which will be selected by the panel from a final batch of three games, picked by users voting on the Gettie website will also be awarded 100 free hours at DeviceAnywhere as well as $25,000 in GetJar credit.

Those looking to enter need to state their interest by June 25, with finalists announced on July 2 before the full awards ceremony in San Francisco on July 12.
