Already the self-proclaimed largest independent app store on the planet, GetJar has announced a deal with Yahoo! that should see its roster of free apps hitting scores more handsets in the coming months.

Revealed via GetJar's developer blog, the two companies have entered a partnership that will see GetJar apps appear in search results on Yahoo! Mobile.

Profitable partnership

GetJar claims the apps will show up in category defined results.

For example, any search for 'sport' will see a selection of appropriate apps show up in the results, enticing the consumer towards a download rather than hampering their initial query.

"The GetJar team is thrilled to share that Yahoo! is now starting test integration of GetJar apps - all 75,000 plus of them - into Yahoo! mobile search queries to make it easier for people to discover the apps they're looking for when on-the-go," said GetJar founder and CEO Ilja Laurs.

"Yahoo! is the first search engine to pursue this kind of integration and we at GetJar couldn’' be happier about making application discovery faster, easier, and simpler, regardless of handset, country, or platform."

GetJar claims the set up is currently being tested in the US, with an international roll out in additional countries expected in 2011.
