Google has announced that it's allowing AdWords advertisers to target their campaigns at consumers using the G1 Android handset, the iPhone, and any phone with an HTML browser.

Because these handsets can access regular websites, advertisers won't need to create dedicated mobile ads and landing pages for them.

"The ads will have many of the same benefits as our standard mobile ads, such as the delivery of mobile-specific calls-to-action and reaching mobile users that are searching with their phones more than ever - especially during the holiday season," says Google's blog post announcing the news.

If you're already an AdWords user, you can now target the G1 and iPhone from the Device Platform option under the Networks and Bidding section of the AdWords back-end.

The news will be of interest to many mobile games publishers who are selling iPhone and Android games, as they ramp up their marketing campaigns around these titles.
