Google Play bound for Kobo's Vox eReader

Kobo has revealed the latest software update for its Vox eReader affords users full access to Google Play and its library of over 500,000 apps.
The 7-inch tablet, which runs a customised version of Android 2.3, previously had access to around 15,000 free applications through an on-device app service provided by GetJar.

Now, once users connect their Vox to the internet, they should be prompted to install the latest software update. Google Play will be automatically added to the device as a result.
"Google Play is the perfect addition for the content-rich eReading environment of the Kobo Vox," explained Kobo's CTO Dan Leibu.
"This is another big step in our ability to give people an open and compelling multimedia device that can be customised to suit their needs.
"Having access to the thousands of games, apps and tools offered by Google Play makes the Kobo Vox an eReader and so much more."
The Kobo Vox's $180 price-point puts it in competition with Amazon's $199 Kindle Fire, which taps into the firm's Appstore for Android, and Barnes & Noble's $170 Nook Color, which has its own dedicated app store.
Of the three devices, the Kobo is currently the only one to allow access to Google Play.
