In a move designed to spark dialogue between developers and consumers, Google is to allow studios to reply to user reviews posted on Google Play.

The decision was taken to ensure developers deliver better apps in the long run, though not all registered Google Play studios will get the chance to converse with their customers.

Top performers

Only "top developers" will be afforded a right to reply, with Google itself judging just which developers fall into what appears to be a fairly loose category.

"Conversations are meant to be two-sided, and facilitating discussion between developers and users will ultimately yield better apps, to the benefit of everyone," the firm said in a statement on the Android Developers blog.

"We're releasing this feature today to those with a Top Developer badge. And based on feedback from users and developers, we will offer it to additional Google Play developers in the future."

There's been no word on the developers granted this esteemed status to date, though it appears the scheme will be rolled out developer-wide should it prove to be a success in its current form.
