After being part of the team that founded Rovio Stockholm back in 2012, former GM Patrick Liu departed to join Spotify in October.

This marked a new era for the Angry Birds 2 studio, with Reginaldo Valadares taking the helm, a secret project in development and a number of new job openings.

As such, reached out to new General Manager Valadares to talk vacancies, company culture and advice for breaking into the industry. Could you give us some background on Rovio Stockholm and what you do/are currently working on?

Reginaldo Valadares: Rovio Stockholm was founded in 2012 with a stellar team from other top Swedish game development studios.

We're behind Angry Birds 2, one of the most successful games in Rovio's history.

We are also working on something new at the Stockholm studio, that we are very excited about. We will share more news about it when the time is right.

What specific areas/disciplines are you currently hiring in?

We are actively hiring for the Rovio Stockholm studio. At Rovio we always welcome highly talented people to join the flock!

We offer great place to work with a lot of space for creativity. Currently we have many open positions, including game programmers, designers, 3D artists, animators and technical artists.

As you're overseeing recruitment at Rovio Stockholm, what do you look for in candidates?

Excellence and cultural fit.

Angry Birds 2 recently reached a top 25 grossing position in the US, which is a great achievement and that has been incredibly helpful in attracting new talent.

We are proud to have an inspiring and open culture.

Why do you think Rovio Stockholm is a good place to work? How will you be trying to encourage a strong company culture?

We hear from our teams that Rovio Stockholm is one of the best places they have ever worked!

That means a lot to us, knowing most of them came from well-established developers.

We value Rovio's culture highly and look for talents that share the same values of openness, collaboration and drive for excellence.

What advice would you have for someone trying to get into the games industry?

Look for good schools! Courses with long internship programmes work well for us.

We have hired most of the interns we've had in our ranks so far.
