iFart developer reveals App Store stats

As we've detailed before, the last couple of weeks has seen an explosion of farting applications on the App Store, following Apple's decision to allow them on.
Now the developer behind the most successful of those, iFart, has revealed his sales stats, which provide a good insight into the momentum generated as an app rises up the charts.
Here's the figures (with the US date format from the original blog post):
12/12 - 75 units - #70 entertainment
12/13 - 296 units - #16 entertainment
12/14 - 841 units - #76 overall, #8 entertainment
12/15 - 1510 units - #39 overall, #5 entertainment
12/16 - 1797 units - #22 overall, #3 entertainment
12/17 - 2836 units - #15 overall, #3 entertainment
12/18 - 3086 units - #10 overall, #3 entertainment
12/19 - 3117 units - #9 overall, #2 entertainment
12/20 - 5497 units, - #4 overall, #2 entertainment
Developer Joel Comm thinks he knows why sales suddenly jumped on the 20th December, too:
"I can only suppose that either there is an exponential jump once you hit the top five, or the release of SimCity has been a rising tide that lifts all boats. Since it rocketed directly to the #1 spot, there are many eyeballs looking at the top ten."
These figures show why iPhone games publishers are tending towards launching their games for as low a price as possible, to secure that all-important race up the charts.
