A new start-up company showcased its new iPhone and iPod touch at TechCrunch50, which aims to turn the Apple handheld into a wireless controller for PC games.

This isn't an entirely new concept, given that SGN has already dabbled with the notion (though only for its own PC titles), but does appear to be a more expansive, accessible platform than previously seen.

iMo would allow gamers to shed the mouse and keyboard in favour of the accelerometer and touchscreen, giving PC gamers something of a Wii experience via Bluetooth or wi-fi. The portability of the iPhone and iPod touch could be quite alluring for laptop gamers, who aren't always in a position to break out the mouse and go driving, flying or shooting.

Long term, the developer is hoping to bring iMo to other platforms, such as Android, and even offer support for consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

iMo is expected to launch on the App Store shortly, at 59p.
