2011 in review: Tomas Slapota, co-CEO, Madfinger Games

Pushing for triple-A quality in 2012
2011 in review: Tomas Slapota, co-CEO, Madfinger Games

Czech developer Madfinger Games had previously demonstrated hardcore expertise with its Samurai games, so 2011 saw anticipation growing for its third person shooter Shadowgun.

A poster child for the Unity engine as well as Android tablets - thanks in part to Nvidia's support - the game also garnered Apple's support, featuring on its Review of 2011 list.

We tracked down co-CEO Tomas Slapota to get his view on the year.

PocketGamer: What do you think was the most significant event for the mobile games industry in 2011?

Tomas Slapota: It was the death of Steve Jobs.

What was the most significant event for Madfinger?

Definitely it was release of our big beast Shadowgun.

It took all our powers but we are very satisfied with it. Alongside the economic aspect, the feedback from players has been simply great.

What was your favourite mobile game of the year?

From artistic point of view, it was Machinarium. It is just nice work, not only the graphics but also a great soundtrack. And I had a lot of fun with Contre Jour too.

What do you predict will be the most important trends in 2012?

I think it will be a boom of multi-core mobile devices, based on, for example, Tegra 3 chipsets.

This will result in the development of new triple-A brands and also ports of old triple-A titles from other game platforms onto mobile devices.

What's your New Year's resolution and what resolution would you enforce on the industry?

Our New Year's resolution is to develop at least three new titles for iOS and Android devices, and at least one of these titles should have multiplayer elements.

Thanks to Tomas for his time.
