While there remains no option to set a fixed launch date for a new iPhone application, Apple is apparently making some effort to give developers an estimate of their app's expected approval (or rejection) date.

iPhoneWorld has picked up on an update to the iPhone development toolset provides developers with an expectedlaunch date based on the current number of applications in the submissions pipeline, and the average time taken to process them.

Generally, 14 days is the basis most companies have been working on anyway, and while it would be a huge benefit to be able to specify a 'live' date so developers and publishers could coordinate a game's launch with a promotion campaign, a rough idea is still better than none.

Hopefully this is one step closer to the launch control iPhone companies really want.
