Japanese mobile provider putting Android in PVR

Its been on our mind for a while now that perhaps Googles Android operating system isnt necessarily most at home on a mobile handset or a smartphone.
Archos already announced its using Android to power a tablet, while T-Mobile is talking about similar, home-based connected devices itself.
Now Japanese mobile provider KDDI is adapting Android to power its latest model of video recorder. These unique devices capture video from a variety of different sources, store them, and can reformat them for playback on a range of mobile handsets.
Its easy to see the benefit of incorporating Android into this mix, and KDDI goes on to say that other manufacturers are also transporting the operating system into devices such as televisions and VoIP phones.
A lightweight, open source, easily expandable and connected system such as Android could well be carving itself a niche outside of the mobile market where, it has to be said, providers and carriers are demonstrably cautious of its use.
