Lionsgate looking at the mobile games industry
Independent film distributor Lionsgate is looking toward the casual and mobile gaming markets to make full use of its copyright ownership, reports CasualGaming.biz.
Plenty of movie companies have seen the potential to expand their intellectual properties into the video game industry, though film license tie-ins are notorious for their lacklustre appeal. Lionsgate, apparently, is aware of this problem.
I think a lot of our film and television properties have the potential to reach out to the casual gaming crowd, as this is an area of gaming that is continuing to grow and grow, says Lionsgates president of digital media Curt Marvis.
I dont believe movie properties necessarily translate into a good game. Gamers only care about the game, they dont care if its based on a hit film or not. Im less convinced there is a market for console games, but one deal were working on involves digital casual and mobile gaming.
During an interview PocketGamer.biz held with mobile and iPhone developer Zed Worldwide last year, managing director Juan Carlos Gonzalvez explained his studio was working on a deal with Lionsgate.
Presumably, Maris and Gonzalvez are talking about the same game, so it might not be too long before Lionsgate gets its name on the App Store.
