Early European adopters of Windows Phone 7 might have noticed the relative lack of a particular brand of app they've no doubt become accustomed to on both iOS and Android location-based apps.

On day one, Windows Phone 7 had just Foursquare to its name. Now, with the platform rolling out in the US, both Yelp and now Loopt have added to the pile.

Going live

According to those behind the app's appearance on Microsoft's new OS, Loopt on Windows Phone 7 has been designed from the ground up, with the set up in particular taking advantage of the platform's live tiles.

Loopt's tile constantly updates itself with friends' locations, comments and messages, meaning users not even need open the app to get a gist of what's going on and where.

"The Windows Phone 7 Loopt app is distinctly different from any version we've made.

"Microsoft has created a smartphone experience that lets people get out of their phones and back to their lives," said Loopt co-founder and CEO Sam Altman.

All about the looks

Loopt also continues the tradition of apps taking on a vastly different form on Windows Phone 7 when compared with their set ups on other platforms the distinct difference in both layout and style the most notable quality.

But it's the social elements of the OS Loopt is most interested in.

"Loopt is all about using your phone as a tool to get out, find friends and socialise, and with this phone, Microsoft has opened up a new window into that valuable, social information," concluded Altman.
