The Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF) has extended the deadline for entries to the eighth annual Meffys Awards to May 6.

Companies looking to nominate their apps and services for the event, which recognises innovation within the mobile market, previously had until April 26 to log their interest.

However, in response to what the association is billing as strong demand, parties now have an extra 10 days in which to register their products for one (or more) of 18 awards in total.

Wax on

The deadline extension comes as the MEF has named Ruby Wax as the event's host for 2011.

The American-born comedian will take charge of the awards for the first time, due to take place in the Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden on July 7.

"We are delighted to announce the fabulous Ruby Wax as the host for the 2011 Meffys," said MEF executive director Rimma Perelmuter.

"The stature of the Meffys reflects the dynamism of our rapidly expanding industry and this year's gala will once again gather the best and brightest in mobile content and commerce for a celebration not to be missed."

Devil in the detail

Firms looking to enter their products or service to the 2011 Meffys need to visit the event's official website.

Tickets for the awards are also still on sale, with MEF Members charged £150 per ticket, members of supporting organisations £250, and non-members £350.
