Metaplay makes game backend tech accessible with new free plan for Unity developers

Finland-based Metaplay has launched a new free plan which gives developers access to the same backend technology used in games like Merge Mansion.
Metaplay said the move is to support more Unity developers as inspired by their Renaissance research to make backend tech more accessible.
Moreover, the company's SDK offers a customisable C# game server, real-time live ops capabilities, and full source code access, giving developers control over game performance and scalability.
Metaplay said its latest release also includes a new CLI for integration and project management via the terminal.
Supporting developers
Developers can sign up at the official website to access the Metaplay SDK, including integration links, documentation, example projects, and tools to start building.
Furthermore, developers can also try a dashboard demo without installing the SDK and later upgrade to a Metaplay Pro plan to access managed services and deploy to the Metaplay Cloud.
“We were overwhelmed by the response to the themes that emerged from our Game Development Renaissance research," said Metaplay chief product officer and co-founder Teemu Haila. “Developers are ready to build again, and they want the right tools to do it.
“With the launch of Metaplay Free, we’re extending an invitation to more developers to join the renaissance and build games on the same foundation the top studios are already using.”
Founded in 2019 in Helsinki, Metaplay offers a customisable backend for scalable online mobile game development. The company is self-funded, employee-owned, and led by experienced developers.
