Microsoft reveals 20m Windows Mobile handset sales in 2009

More than 20 million Windows Mobile handsets have been sold in the last 12 months, according to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.
He was talking in his keynote speech at the CES show earlier this week, and MocoNews reports that he was bullish about WinMo's performance in the face of competition from Apple's iPhone.
"We have delivered 11 different mobile phones that have each sold a million units each, and in the past year, weve brought to market over 30 new Windows Mobile phones, or more than any other mobile platform in the market," said Ballmer.
That's great news in terms of providing an addressable base of handsets for games and application developers to target.
But the question is what Microsoft's plans are to take on the iPhone's App Store, and provide more accessible and intuitive ways for WinMo users to buy games and apps on their handsets in 2009 and beyond.
