One of the nice things about attending industry conferences recently is that people have stopped moaning about porting hassles like they were two or three years ago.

Admittedly, they've simply swapped that for moaning about operators instead, while the bigger publishers have got into the disturbing habit of trying to publicly outdo one another in 'we do x thousand SKUs per title' boasting.

But anyway, there are still companies touting technology to ease the porting process, one of which is Mobile Distillery.

It's just announced the latest iteration of its Celsius product, v5, which claims to reduce the development phase by 30 per cent, and the time to port and backfill by up to 80 per cent.

The company is also talking up its Parametric Profiling feature, which it says allows development to be based around the desired features and behaviours of an app or game, and for Celsius' conditional programming engine to then calculate the best way of implementing it across different handsets.

"The changes we have made, from reducing the number of binaries to fully automating the process of backfill, totally changes the economics of mobile development," says CEO Eric Lemaréchal.

Celsius v5 won't be available until September, with plans to offer it to developers for a monthly licence fee of between €500 and €3,250, depending on the features and level of support desired.
