The European Commission has awarded two satellite companies a spectrum of satellite broadcast bandwidth fo next-generation mobile services, MocoNews is reporting.

These mobile satellite services (MSS) could be used to provide high speed internet access, mobile AV broadcasts, radio communications and, of course, gaming.

Mobile broadband has already helped to provide remote locations with internet connectivity, and the new range of MSS applications could significantly increase the speed and availability of access.

Although it'll take a significant investment from technology companies to harness the MSS system, the contract has been awarded to Britich Inmarsat Ventures and French-Luxembourg Solaris Mobile for 18 years, so there's plenty of scope to leverage the massive potential of mobile satellite broadcasts.
