MocoSpace acquires location-based social network Geocade

It already has over 20 million members, generating one million hours of gameplay per day, but US browser-based social gaming platform MocoSpace has added location into its network with its acquisition of Geocade.
The first fruits of the deal will be seen in-house title Rise to Fame and in time, all MocoSpace games will become 'location-aware'.

"Two pioneers are joining forces today," said Geocade founder and CEO Jim Caralis, who will join MocoSpace as VP of the firm's HTML5 gaming operations.
"MocoSpace created the first mobile social network and HTML5 games platform. Combine that with our industry first location-based social games company, and we have the recipe for a completely new game experience - beyond anything weve seen to date."
The acquisition details of which have not been disclosed will result in both platforms being fully integrated at a later date.
Staying on track
For now, however, HTML5 release Rise to Fame will serve as the flag bearer, with players tasked with checking in to different locations to unlock new roles in game.
"The Geocade acquisition furthers our aggressive push into mobile social gaming, which has been a major success for our company in a relatively short time," added MocoSpace CEO Justin Siege.
"In less than a year, weve launched twenty HTML5 games. Now thanks to Geocade, we plan to expand on our leadership in the mobile HTML5 space with an ambitious roadmap for our platform."
Games equipped with Geocade, which Caralis branded as a tool designed to play to mobile's geo-location's strengths, have amassed a total of 30 million downloads across iOS and Android to date.
