Forget Apple, the rush to enable Flash 10.1 for all mobile devices other than iOS continues apace, with Finnish services company Movial announcing it's now supporting Adobe's rich media player on Android and MeeGo.

Offering integration, test, optimisation and certification services, the company says it's already in talks with five major chip and mobile platform vendors to integrate, test and certify Flash Player 10.1 on a wide range of Android and MeeGo smartphones and embedded devices such as tablets, e-readers and netbooks.

Opening floodgates

"Flash Player 10.1 empowers compelling and complete web user experiences across the widest range of mobile devices," said Wade Vesey, Movial North America's CEO.

"Flash Player 10.1 sets the groundwork for innovation and having a scaling partner like Movial means that chip and mobile platform vendors have a reliable, expert team at hand to support their optimisation and hardware acceleration needs to bring the performance and new features of Flash Player 10.1 to market as quickly as possible," said Anthony Haag, director of business development, Open Screen Project at Adobe.

Open Screen Project is the Adobe-led and Flash-based industry body that seeks to reduce fragmentation for web browsing and standalone applications.

Companies such as Nokia, Samsung, Google, LG, Verizon, the BBC and Disney are members. Apple obviously isn't.
