Mytopia shifting from games to platform focus

We've written about Mytopia over on Pocket Gamer before - the US/Israeli company has a range of games that can be played across different platforms, including Facebook, iPhone and now Windows Mobile.

It's signed up more than a million registered users so far. However, it seems the company's future lies in its core platform, rather than actually making games.

A VentureBeat interview with founder Guy Ben-Artzi says the company is shifting its focus away from the games, and towards licensing its platform out to other developers - not just game developers, but general applications too.

Its RUGS platform currently supports iPhone, WinMo, BlackBerry, Symbian, Android, Palm and J2ME, as well as web social networks.

"We are becoming a platform to shift content to run on all platforms," says Ben-Artzi. "We are talking to partners in a variety of industries. Games were a great place to start because they are very demanding applications. We built a platform that made us see a bigger picture."

With plenty of casual games companies eyeing the potential of releasing their titles across different platforms - but concerned about the complexity and cost - Mytopia could find favour with its new approach.
