Nokia confesses Ovi Store has a long way to go

Nokia confesses Ovi Store has a long way to go

It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that Nokia's Ovi Store, which launched 26 May 2009, has suffered from teething troubles.

It crashed on launch and hasn't been well supported in terms of devices, languages, billing options, or ease of use.

In that context, the knowledge that 10 million pieces of content have been downloaded - an average of six for each of the 1.7 million users - seems par for the course.

Still, Kai Oistamo, Nokia's EVP of Devices, reckons things are getting better, telling a conference call of reporters that the number of downloads has grown 50 percent between July and August.

He also said the potential of the service wouldn't be fully known until it was live in 100 countries. To-date, the Ovi Store supports 100 devices, five languages, and is available on 27 operators in eight countries.
