Apple forces adult Android app store MiKandi to rebrand as an adult app market

Further to the situation that sees Microsoft disputing Apple, and now Apple suing Amazon over the term 'app store', another company has been dragged into the mix.

MiKandi - originally 'The World's First Adult App Store' - has, according to GeekWire, been contacted by Apple with a cease-and-desist letter over the term.

It's since changed the marketing tag on its website to 'The World's First App Market for Adults', although the term App Store still appears on the Mikandi Android app (in version 3.3.125 at least).

Keeping it clean

A third party app store for Android content, Mikandi isn't available via the Android Market, but has to be installed as content from an "unauthorised source", as with the Amazon Appstore for Android.

It offers various adult apps, including the "infamous chest shaking app" iBoobs, which was rejected from both Apple's App Store and the Android Market.

According to co-founder, Jennifer McEwen, MiKandi is now generating over 500,000 app downloads per month, and it's just rolled out its own virtual currency MiKandi Gold.
