Readys for App Store revamp

Apple acquires app search specialist Chomp
An App Store overhaul looks more and more likely given that Apple has acquired app discovery tool Chomp.

The deal will see the Cupertino firm utilise Chomp's technology and 20-strong team to redesign App Store discovery to make searching for apps easier.

The App Store has been under scrutiny for years as it's become harder for new content to gain visibility in a rapidly growing application marketplace.

No details have been announced about the specifics of the deal, nor of the total amount that Apple paid, though TechCrunch is reporting that Apple investors are 'pleased' with the deal.

It's also unknown what will happen with regards to Chomp's Verizon deal, which sees it provide its services to the carrier's Android-based app searches.
