Developers react to WWDC 2012 sell out with IndieDevLab

Reacting to the news that Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference sold out within a matter of hours - leaving many west coast developers ticketless - the iOS community has launched its own alternative event.

IndieDevLab 2012 is due to run in San Francisco funnily enough, the same foggy city playing host to Apple's shindig between June 11-14. WWDC runs 11-15 June.

Indie for all

According to organisers, IndieDevLab is designed to "bring together the iOS and OS X developer community by bringing the heart of the big San Francisco conference to everybody - the labs."

"Here you can meet up with other professionals in the industry and get a second pair of eyes," details the event's website, also making reference to a hackathon where entrants will be challenged to "mash" code from an unreleased, but functional iOS title until "it's a game of unsurpassed brilliance."

"At the completion of the IDL Remix, the team with the most outstanding game - as determined by our esteemed panel of judges and the attendees - will be named the winner," the site declares.

"Games will be measured on creativity, gameplay, and use of the iOS touchscreen feature set."

Developers interested in registering for a place at the event should visit the IndieDevLab website, with one day passes starting at an early bird price of $99, plus a $6.44 fee.
