Ottawa-based e-commerce platform Shopify has released a new Unity SDK that allows developers to put a storefront for physical items directly into their games.
The Unity Buy SDK can be implemented directly into any title built in Unity, allowing players to purchase products such as t-shirts and have it delivered to their home.
Snowman's Alto's Adventure is already using Shopify to sell branded merchandise such as socks and headwear.

Sell, sell, sell
It can also be used by developers to open up new items for purchase when players reach a certain point in the game. Shopify suggested that pins based on characters a player meets could be made available for purchase once this condition is met.
The SDK can also use in-game data to create products. A player could purchase a t-shirt displaying how far they have travelled in-game, for example.
The Unity Buy SDK is available to all developers with a Shopify account. More information, including a detailed tutorial on installing it, can be found on the company's website.
