Boom Slingers dazzles judges to clinch top spot at the Very Big Indie Pitch at PGC Helsinki 2018

Tuokio’s Worms-like and collectable card game hybrid Boom Slingers won over the judges to take first place at the Very Big Indie Pitch at Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki 2018.

The Big Indie Pitch is a regular event run by the makers of PocketGamer.biz. It gives indie developers the chance to pitch their games to industry experts and journalists in a speed-dating-styled format.

Teams get the opportunity to get valuable feedback on their games, as well as win great prizes such as promotional packages and, more importantly, the coveted Big Indie Pitch bat.

Winners also get entered into the Big Indie Awards, which this year will take place at the G-STAR conference in Busan, South Korea.

Below you can find the top five games at the Very Big Indie Pitch at Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki 2018.

1. Boom Slingers

A free-to-play turn-based 2D shooter much in the vein of Worms with added CCG mechanics, Boom Slingers is a slick and capable evolution of the genre that fits perfectly on mobile. Such was the title’s quality, it won over the judges to claim top spot at the Very Big Indie Pitch at PGC Helsinki.

2. Grand Mountain Adventure

Toppluva’s Grand Mountain Adventure offers a cool open world where players can ski around to their heart's content, finding challenging slopes to show off their skills on in a tightly-controlled, chilled yet challenging environment.

3. Quest 4 Fuel

Evil Zeppelin showed themselves to be a talented team when presenting the Mad Max-styled turn-based RPG that looks polished in all areas, from the visuals to the animation and, importantly, the gameplay.

4. Ocmo Origins

Team Ocmo has previous at Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki and was always popular among judges with its quirky and highly challenging title Ocmo. But now the developer is working on a new title, Ocmo Origins, which builds on the excellent original and makes the IP more accessible than ever.

5. GunTruck U.S.

Headnought’s GunTruck U.S. packs a wild ride, with players thrust into an arena where they need to avoid fire while destroying all attackers, all wrapped in an intriguing package that makes this game one to watch.
