SkyZone bought out by Korean firms

Korean firms VSST and SK C&C have signed a deal to acquire a majority share in US mobile games publisher SkyZone Entertainment.

The deal will give VSST the rights to SkyZone's 100-strong catalogue of mobile games, including Duke Nukem Mobile, Prey Mobile, Rocky Balboa and Extreme Hangman.

SkyZone also runs an 'Asian Gateway Program' selling Korean-developed mobile games through US operator Verizon Wireless.

It remains to be seen what the new owners' plans are for the company. VSST is a software firm, while SK C&C is an IT services company.

Meanwhile, the deal also gives a stake in SkyZone to CVE Group, a Korean provider of "Reverse Logistics & Repair and Refurbishment Services of consumer electronics".

"This acquisition provides us with the instant capabilities to bring forth proven software solutions from Korea into the United States and to build on the successes of SkyZone's game publishing and aggregation as well as their groundbreaking exclusive Asian Gateway Program with Verizon Wireless," says VSST COO Kevin Ha.

SkyZone's VP of business development and strategy Key Sar, formerly games boss at Verizon Wireless, will remain with the company as chief marketing officer.

"The resources VSST offers will build on the foundation we have started by providing opportunities to develop content for exciting new and original IP as well as other types of mobile applications," he says.

These apparently include wireless remote monitoring and foreign-alphabet text messaging software.
