Ngmoco leads mobile nominations in first GDC Online Awards

The nominations for the first annual Game Developers Choice Online Awards have a distinctly mobile flavour to them, with publisher ngmoco - together with developers Newtoy and Wonderland - set to tussle it out with PC and console developers in almost every category.
Set up as part of the GDC Online conference to be held in October, the new awards look to honour studios behind the best online titles, handing out accolades for titles with the best design, technical elements and community relations, amongst others.
We really do rule
Leading the mobile charge is ngmoco, with We Rule, developed by US outfit Newtoy and Godfinger, from UK studio Wonderland, collectively picking up four nominations in terms of best design, art, game and audio.
Booyah's Nightclub City currently available on Facebook is also up for three awards, while both Playfish and Zynga are nominated for two awards with social games FIFA Superstar and Farmville respectively.
Also nominated is Digital Chocolate, which is up for best social network game along with rivals Booyah, Playfish, Playdom and Zynga for NanoStar Siege.
Online accolades
"The world of online gaming has expanded and evolved massively in just a few years, and those creators who have pushed the category forward deserve to be recognised for their creations," said Simon Carless, global brand director for UBM.
"We're delighted to have set up the Game Developers Choice Online Awards to recognise these talented, sometimes underappreciated developers and honor the social past, present and future of the game industry."
The winners will be announced on October 7 as part of GDC Online 2010 in Austin.
More information on the event can be found at the award's official website.
