The App Store is becoming increasingly conservative, with a strict (if unclear and un-quantified) policy on even the vaguest amounts of smutty content making it through the submissions process.

Recently an application that allowed users to shake a pair of virtual boobs was banned from the App Store, though a similar product, called Wobble, made it through the gateway by not supplying any risqué pictures with the app - though users can add their own and jiggle specific parts of it to their heart’s content.

But even Wobble has been looked upon unfavourably by Apple recently, according to TechCrunch, and it’s asked the developer to remove any mention of ‘boobs’ or ‘booty’ from its App Store page text.

The developer has apparently already complied with this request, though Apple’s demand for a promotional YouTube video to be cleaned up has so far been dismissed.

Considering the often explicit content of songs and movies also available through the iTunes, it seems that censorship is particularly harsh and disproportionate when it comes to the App Store.

We also saw the banned Dope Wars remake crudely rewritten to become Candy Wars very recently, though the blunt allusions to the drug trade don’t come close to covering up the intended content.

It’s undeniably a serious consideration for any developers whose applications might contain even vaguely adult themes, however, so beware when submitting a pirate game that talks about booty.
