Nokia has denied a report in UK newspaper The Guardian that it's planning to launch an Android handset later this year.

"There is no truth to this story whatsoever," says Nokia's statement. "It is a well known fact that Symbian is our platform of choice for smartphones."

The story suggests that Nokia is planning to unveil a touchscreen Android handset this September at its Nokia World conference.

Last year, Nokia acquired full control of the Symbian platform, and announced that it would be making it open-source - with plans to take on Android a key factor in that decision.

Nokia's denial seemingly shows it remains committed to that strategy. Which at least saves a clash with Google over just whose app store would get top billing in an Android Nokia phone...
