Nokia working with AT&T to deliver LTE equipped Lumia 800 to US market

Nokia's decision to roll out the firm's first Windows Phone intially in Europe may not have just been motivated by the Finnish manufacturer's traditional strength in the region.

According to The Verge, US consumers will have to wait for the device's launch at least in part due to a desire to make Lumia 800 LTE compatible.

Currently, Windows Phone doesn't support LTE the mobile broadband standard commonly utilised by US carriers but the site claims Nokia is working with AT&T to make Lumia 800 to run with the tech.

Doing so, however, could mean breaking Microsoft's mold in one form or other.

Speculation suggests the next major update to Windows Phone - believed to be named Tango internally - may well add LTE support to its roster, but that would mean Lumia 800 wouldn't be able to launch until the update is ready to roll out.

Other talk hints at the Lumia 800 running bespoke Mango-based code with LTE support added in for good measure, though neither Nokia or AT&T have yet moved to comment.
