Like location-based play, augmented reality has established itself as a valid tool for the mobile market, but knowing when and how it should be employed is still uncertain.

One of the early players in the AR Unifeye Mobile creator metaio has unveiled its response: this year's annual insideAR event, scheduled to take place in Munich on September 26-27.

The conference will attempt to provide a roadmap for AR moving forward, including a "vision of an augmented city", where "contextual, digital information displayed in the real world is only a fingertip away".

PR for AR

A number of speakers have also been lined up, including Verigore Games CEO Josh Shabtai, ST Ericsson head of ecosystems and research Björn Ekelund, ARM's ecosystem partners manager Srikanth Iyer and Transitional Media founder John C. Havens.

Metaio CTO Peter Meier is also set to play a role, hosting a special presentation dubbed "Making the Digital a Natural Experience - Status Quo and the Future of Augmented Reality".

Additional keynotes will be given by NVIDIA's VP of business development Joe Stam, RIM's senior alliance manager Klemens Schrattenbacher, Prof. Werner Schreiber from Volkswagen and metaio CEO Thomas Alt.

And visitors will have the chance to see a "day with AR" demo, featuring live demonstrations from metaio, AR business professionals and partners.

Those looking to attend should register on the insideAR 2011 website.
