One in three mobiles equipped with motion sensing by 2010

Naturally the iPhone has played a big part in popularising motion sensor controls in mobile phones, and a new report from iSuppli predicts that by next year one in three sets will feature some form of motion sensing technology.
Already the implementation of accelerometers has increased exponentially, with less than 10 per cent of handsets being equipped with motion sensing in 2008 jumping to over 20 per cent in 2009.
The intuitiveness of such micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) has proven massively popular with less technically minded users. The report goes on to explain many of the benefits associated with a rise in accelerometer equipped devices will be with content, gaming and software companies as much as hardware manufacturers.
Clearly basic motion sensing is becoming a prerequisite of even mid-range mobile handsets, and iSuppli quite reasonably predicts the technology will now begin spreading to other types of equipment than just mobile phones and gaming devices.
