If the openness of Android is off-putting for some consumers, it's presented an opportunity for social gaming network OpenFeint.

Ever since Aurora Feint launched the platform on Google's OS, it's set about employing the kind of features enjoyed as standard by iOS gamers and developers alike, signified most strongly by the launch of its Spotlight app.

Spreading the word

App discovery at least of OpenFeint titles - was Spotlight's priority when it made its debut in September, with CEO Jason Citron lamenting at the time that the difficulty consumers have tracking down top titles on Android was damaging the platform as a whole.

No surprise, then, that improving said discovery features on Spotlight is the main addition in version 1.1, recently launched on Android Market.

According to the company, Spotlight 1.1 makes it more straightforward for players to find both new games, and new friends the combination of the two making it easier for good games to gain popular.

To that extent, it's becoming more like Apple's Game Center but for Android.

Spotlight 1.1 for Android can be downloaded from Android Market for free.
