French mobile operator Orange sold 70,000 iPhones between November 28th and December 31st, according to sources quoted by La Tribune.
That's three times more than it sold in the same period in 2007, showing increased demand for the iPhone 3G, and bolstering mobile games firms' claims of a bumper Christmas for iPhone game sales.
No figures are available for how many iPod touch devices were sold in France during December, although anecdotal evidence from other countries suggests the device sold even more strongly than the iPhone.
Meanwhile, the same La Tribune report claims that rival French operator SFR also saw strong sales over the Christmas period, bolstered by its exclusive BlackBerry Storm.
