Fragmentation has never been the issue it once was on Android on iOS, yet the launch of iPhone 4S complete with seven times the graphical performance of its predecessor has naturally got folks nervous.

The question of whether iPhone 3GS devices which Apple will continue to stream to the shop shelves via a free contract deal will truly be able to handle apps sporting graphics designed to push 4S, therefore, will be prevelant on the mind of many in the coming months.

PaWaSoft's new app PaWaMark claims to have the answer.

Raising the mark

Launching soon on the App Store and bound for Android in the near future, PaWaMark acts as a 'universal gaming benchmark test', running what it describes as 'cutting edge gaming scenes' to see how the hardware in question copes.

"PaWaMark is the first gaming benchmark for mobile phones and tablets," says Gaël Lequeux of PaWaSoft.

"With PaWaMark you can test the gaming performances of your device with real game scenes, each focused on a different game type."

Indeed, PaWaMark doesn't just focus on the high-end. The first test delivers a 2D scene comprised of hundreds of sprites taken from the studio's own title PicoGP Tactics - the second a 3D race built to reach the limits of openGL ES 1 specifications, with the third (below) offering advanced rendering techniques used on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

"The last test is a multithreaded CPU test designed to test the 3D computational power of your device," concludes Lequeux.

PaWaMark is due to launch on the App Store imminently. You can found out more about the app on the studio's website.
