Polish Games Association teams with Polish government to set up $20 million R&D fund

The Polish Games Association has worked with the Polish government to set up a $20 million investment fund for game development in the country.

The association was set up by a number of Polish developers, including CD Projekt Red, 11 Bit Studios, and Techland.

The fund will award between $130,000 (500,000 Polish zloty) and $5 million (20 million zloty) to eligible developers with "innovative" projects.

To be eligible, developers must be based in Poland, have a maximum project timeline of three years, and have a maximum of 60% of the workforce be contractors.

Increasing Poland's competitiveness

The fund is also only for projects that focus on "industrial research and experimental development or experimental development only".

"This is a program aimed at increasing the competitiveness of the Polish gaming sector through R&D," said Stan Just, R&D manager at CD Projekt Red, in an interview with GamesBeat.

"We want to stimulate innovation in companies that already have experience in pursuing such a path, as well as encourage new companies to start embarking on more innovative projects."
