Greystripe updates SDK with MAC address, but is working on a long-term UDID replacement

The cascade of SDKs which have ripped out use of UDIDs continues.

The latest mobile ad company to release an SDK that's ready for whenever Apple really starts rejecting apps for using the deprecated device ID is Greystripe.

Good to go

The ValueClick-owned business has fallen in step with many other companies, replacing UDIDs with hashed MAC addresses - something most people consider to be a stop gap solution at best.

Indeed, that's also Greystripe's view on the situation.

"We do not believe that hashed MAC address is the long-term solution for the industry, but we believe it does meet our mutual short-term needs," it details in an email to customers.

It adds that it's continuing to work with others in the industry to agree on a long-term solution - something it hopes to integrate into its SDK version 4.0, to be released at sometime in the coming months.
