Rapid2D Engine looks to ease Windows 8 game development

Riding the wave of a new platform launch, UK outfit Rapid2D has announced its Windows 8 game engine.
Also called Rapid2D, the engine is based on the C# scripting language and provides a simple environment for 2D game creation.
It supports PC, tablets and devices running Windows Phone 8, and includes integrated physics, visual effects, sound, particle systems, collision control and animated sprites.
Starting soon
A free version will be available from 19 December (you can currently sign up for registration), while a Pro version will be released in early 2013.
There are also plans to further support developers with other upgrades and add-ons.

For example, the engine will launch alongside demonstration tower defence game Goblin Guts so users can immediately get to grips with development.
