Though there are plenty of analytics platforms already on the market, those behind Playmetrix's debut aren't short on confidence.

Playmetrix pitches its platform as a suitable tool for all corners of the games industry; from standard developers and publishers to specialist MMO studios, payment providers and even platform holders.

It's launching now via a closed, invite-only beta, before its full market release later in 2011.

Proof is in the pudding

"Having built and road tested our service with Sony on PSN over the past year, it’s evident that Playmetrix is more powerful and affordable than any other commercially available data analysis product on the market," said CTO Justin Johnson.

This test involved Playmetrix monitoring the use of the Sony's virtual E3 stand, served up via PlayStation Home in 2010.

The platform was able to deduce which features and attractions proved the most popular, allowing Sony to foster press attention when it revealed its virtual E3 stand had received more attention than the physical one.

All bases covered

Simple real-time analytics is what Playmetrix will look to offer studios, with the technology providing detailed sales and customer behaviour data for games across mobiles, tablets, consoles, web and Facebook.

"A game’s success is becoming more and more dependent upon data driven iterative development cycles," concluded Johnson.

"Our tools empower our customers to make optimum decisions around game design."
