Samsung's first Honeycomb powered tablet will launch in the US on June 8, the company has revealed, though the majority of US consumers will have to wait a further 9 days before they can get their hands on it.

The firm says a limited number of wi-fi units will be sold exclusively at the Best Buy Union Square store in New York, before the tablet launches nationwide on June 17.

Upgrades on board

In terms of price, the cheapest unit available at launch will be the 16GB version, coming in at $499. As previously confirmed, the 32GB release will retail for $599.

"Ensuring that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 launched with Android 3.1 Honeycomb was part of our constant commitment to meeting the needs of our customers," said president and CEO Dale Sohn.

"The Galaxy Tab 10.1's ultra-thin design and 10-inch touchscreen are impressive differentiators in the tablet market place. We're going to make the Galaxy Tab 10.1 even more powerful, entertaining and secure through a series of upgrades coming to this device."

Details as the tablets roll out in Europe are currently unknown.
