The casual gaming startup Zattikka has been getting a lot of attention lately, especially after it acquired UK-based Gimme5Games and placed its CEO Matt Spall as its new head of product development.

But the games company just received a significant vote of industry confidence after Atomico Ventures becomes the first capital group to put funding into the business.

Founded by Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis, who helped established some of the internet's major players, such as Skype, Joost and Kazaa before starting Atomico, it's placed its faith in iPhone, online and social network game developer Zattikka.

"The online gaming industry offers a huge market opportunity to disruptive players," Atomico's Geoffrey Prentice tells Develop.

"In Zattikka we found a strong and passionate team with excellent credentials, sound plans and structure that can make a determining difference in the sector."
