Smaato is to bring its Open Mobile Advertising SDK - more commonly known as SOMA - to Symbian, the firm has revealed.

Announced at the CTIA Enterprise and Applications event in San Francisco, Symbian developers will now have access to the more than 50 mobile ad networks SOMA currently supports.

Super Symbian"We are excited to introduce our SOMA SDK for Symbian and offer its developers a way to easily integrate an in-app ad solution that provides the maximum number of ad networks and ad revenue sources," said Smaato CEO and co-founder Ragnar Kruse.

SOMA's strength, in Smaato's view, is its mix of in app and mobile web ads, with the platform supporting Qt, WRT, and native Symbian C++ development environments.

The firm also claims the platform has unrivalled reach, effectively targeting users in more than 220 countries thanks to optimisation technology that focuses on specific categories.

"Our research has demonstrated the opportunities of in-app advertising for Symbian developers and we hope many take advantage of our offering," he added.

The SDK originally made its debut on iOS and Android, although Smaato has long trumpeted the strength of Symbian as a platform for advertising.

Before the launch of iAd, Smaato stated that Symbian had double the CTR of iPhone.

Developers looking to download the free SDK can pick up from Smaato's website, with the firm claiming it will run on Symbian^3, as well as Symbian^1 (S60 5th Edition) and S60 3rd Edition.
