Adding to its existing Open Mobile Advertising platform - more commonly known as SOMA - Smaato has unveiled its latest SDKs designed to support rich media ads on smartphones and tablets.

The new SDKs are powered by rich media ad specialist Crisp Media and global mobile ad giant Celtra, delivering either banner or full page ads designed to better engage audiences.

Rich media, rich reward

Ads created using the SDK are interactive, featuring both preroll and click-to-view video options, as well as the ability to expand them out across the screen or float them over the page.

"We're pleased to work with Celtra and Crisp Media to provide developers and publishers with the ability to tap into new ways to monetise applications and content through the support of rich media ads via mobile," said Smaato co-founder and CEO Ragnar Kruse.

The new SDKs will be underpinned by Smaato's SOMA platform, which already provides a mix of in app and mobile web ads across Qt, WRT, and native Symbian C++ development environments.

Full rich media support, however, so far appears limited to iOS and Android.
