Sony Ericsson and Sharp take Wholesale Applications Community tally to 57

Established by 24 founders back in February, it's taken nine months for the Wholesale Applications Community (WAC) a body designed to serve up a common standard for mobile developers to more than double its membership.
Leading the line of nine new backers are OEMs Sony Ericsson and Sharp, with WAC's total membership of 57 reaching across the entire mobile industry spectrum.
Member momentum
"We're of course delighted to see more members joining WAC," said WAC CEO Peters Suh.
"It continues to demonstrate the very strong interest that were seeing from companies across the ecosystem in providing their customers with choice."
Other new members to the organisation, which remodelled itself into a not-for-profit corporate entity in July, include Aepona, Camber Tech, GClue, Gemalto, Infraware, and KT Innotz.
Also announced as an operator member is Russian carrier VimpelCom, with GSMAs OneAPI confirmed as the WAC's operator standard for the exposure of network APIs.
Simply speaking
"The GSMA OneAPI makes it easier for web-centric developers to use the information and capabilities provided by mobile operators to create network-enriched applications and services and exactly meets the WAC requirements for simplicity and effectiveness," added Suh.
Two WAC executives will deliver presentations at Mobile Asia Congress, due to take place between November 16-18.
Suh will take part in the panel session 'Turning WAC into Cash' on day one, with VP of devices and products Erik De Kroon will lead a developer work stream as part of the App Bytes application developer conference on the final day.
