Sony has launched what's being dubbed as its first SmartWatch in the US  otherwise known as an Android-powered touchscreen watch with built in connectivity to phones running Google's OS.

The $150 gadget connects to Android handsets (versions 2.1 and above) via Bluetooth and can retrieve texts, emails, Twitter, and Facebook updates, all popping up on the clock's 1.42 x 1.42-inch OLED display.

All in the wrist

The rechargable watch comes with a black rubber wristband with additional colours including pink, white, mint, grey, and blue available at $20 a pop.

Sony has stressed that only a limited number of apps from Google Play will work on the device, recommending it be used mainly for social networking and music.
