First detailed at CES 2012, Sony's NSZ-GS7 set-top box will roll out across the US and UK this July, with the firm opening up the device to pre-orders.

The so-billed 'internet player' taps into Google TV and is set to lead the way for the platform on British shores, with Sony set to follow up with the launch of a Blu-ray equipped NSZ-GP9 sister system in October.

Double trouble

The former will naturally be the cheapest of the two on offer, coming in at $199 in the US, £200 in the UK and €200 in Europe.

In comparison, the Blu-ray equipped version will sport a $299/£280/€300 price-tag when it launches first in US, followed by Canada, Australia, UK, France, Germany, and the Netherlands three months later.

"Expanding the reach and interoperability of the powerful Android platform with Sony's smartphones, tablets and renowned audio and video products, we are proud to continue our relationship with Google through the introduction of the new Google TV Internet Player," said European head of marketing Gildas Pelliet.

"Entertainment content is available through so many channels and sites, and Google TV helps consumers easily find what they want to watch, listen or play with the freedom of the internet and using the familiar Chrome browser."
