The mobile games industry in the UK was worth £995.1 million in 2016, according to trade body Ukie.

The news was announced during its 2016 UK Games Industry Market Valuation talk. The figure is an increase of 16.9% from 2015, when the market was valued at £851 million.

Big business

The overall value of the video game software market in the UK was revealed to be around £3 billion. This means that the mobile sector makes up around a third of the entire UK games industry.

Overall consumer spend in 2016 on the video game industry was said to be $4.33 billion. This encompasses all software and hardware sales, along with books, films, merchandise and events in the UK.

While the figures are impressive, they could take a hit following the UK's decision to leave the European Union. Ukie found recently that 40% of game studios in the region are considering relocating following Brexit.
